Objectives
Every place has its own sonic identity. Even before we are able to describe a place through words or images, we can already recognise it by its sounds: the ringing of the cathedral bells, the current of the Miño river, a car braking and disappearing down a cobbled street, the mingled voices from a terrace, the wind moving through an almost empty promenade, or the sharp sound of a shop shutter closing for the day.
We live, however, in a time dominated by images. Our relationship with the world is increasingly mediated by the visual, while the sounds that surround us often remain in the background, unnoticed and unseen. Yet listening carefully is also a way of knowing, inhabiting and understanding the place in which we live.
This workshop invites the inhabitants of Tui and the surrounding area to explore the soundscape of their environment through cinema. Which sounds define our town? How does its acoustic atmosphere change throughout the day? In what ways do sounds transform our perception of what we see? What stories can emerge when we pay attention to what usually goes unnoticed?
Through the creation of a short audiovisual piece, each participant will have the opportunity to observe and listen to their surroundings in a different way, allowing sounds —everyday or unexpected, recognisable or mysterious, real or constructed— to guide the development of their cinematic proposal. An exercise in attention and discovery that will allow us to rediscover the place we inhabit.
