The seductive spell cast by Jay Rosenblatt’s films is difficult to articulate. Somewhere between experimental and documentary, his concise, evocative and intensely psichological films confront us on a subliminal level with the most feared of the human condition.
He masterly combines music with old footage -much of it from training films, newsreels, industrials and public service films from the 50’s and 60’s -that he recontextualizes, manipulates and alters, synthesizing a complexity of meaning and an emotional power that is often astonishing.
Jay Rosenblatt holds Guggenheim and Rockefeller Fellowship awards and his intelligent, incisive, impressionistic and extremely poetic films, have obtained over one hundred awards, including Sundance, and have been screened worldwide.
On this occasion Play-Doc presents a retrospective of Rosenblatt’s magnificent filmography. To see his work is to recognise that he is a major artist.
